Christmas

Well, it's Christmas time again. Once more have I made the trip back east across the plains to my parents' house in DG, IL. Thus far, this has been a pretty standard trip. Got in late, headed into the City the following night after a day of lunch and talking with mom. Standard night out also. Didn't see the sun come up this time, but was up pretty late with the guys. Beer was had, no sleep was had, 2 naps were taken after straggling back to the 'burbs.

As we no longer wake up early on Xmas morning, we opened our presents tonight, Xmas Eve, though technically it was Xmas day. There was a new variance in our routine-dad pulled out the slides and projector, to show us pics form his days as a kid, to show us many of our relatives. Unfortunately, I think this may have been brought on in part by the recent death of his sister (whose wake drew one sibling-dad-out of the 5 that are still alive). It was interesting, especially seeing dad as a kid. For the first time in a long time, it actually felt like we were a family again. That was nice, but sad at the same time.

However, too much money was spent on us, as always. But not too much, I hope. The gifts should all fit in my suitcase, making the trip home more or less effortless.

More later. Mom finally wandered off to bed, so the bro and I will now take in a movie, a brew, and some tots.

The warring factions

It has begun. It started months ago and is only now ramping up into a full scale conflict. I am surrounded, and outnumbered. I have a good stash of ammo, I just don't know that I can launch it quickly enough.

Thursday Night Adventures

After work yesterday, I went for a long (1 hour), not-so-slow run (4 minute miles-really!) with my faithful running companion. No, not Buster. Actually, not even a dog, really. Just Jenny. Anyway, after our run I decided that my hard work merited a frosty cold beverage. The drive home was uneventful, as was unlocking my door and going inside. Once inside, I raided the fridge and put together a dinner of leftovers-3 ravioli and a bowlful of mixed veggies. And a beer. While eating, I had a long, deep, and very rational discussion with my friend Boz. Here is an excerpt from the conversation:

BOZ: I drive a TRUCK! vroom vroom!

COREY: No you don't. you drive an SUV.

BOZ: I drive a TRUCK! vroom vroom!

COREY: No you don't. you drive an SUV.

BOZ: I drive a TRUCK! vroom vroom!

COREY: No you don't. you drive an SUV.

BOZ: I drive a TRUCK! vroom vroom!

COREY: No you don't. you drive an SUV.

BOZ: I drive a TRUCK! vroom vroom!

COREY: No you don't. you drive an SUV.

BOZ: I drive a TRUCK! vroom vroom!

COREY: No you don't. you drive an SUV.

BOZ: I'm a better driver than you

COREY: No you're not.

BOZ: I'm home. bye

COREY: I need to drink. bye

After this verbal jousting ended, I put in Almost Famous. And got another beer. Unfortunately, my free DVD player is starting to fail. So I had to switch to the laptop. this was cause for more beer. I toasted myself.

not long after the movie ended, Mr. Ream called. here is that conversation:

REAM: What are you doing? COREY: Drinking. REAM: With who? COREY: Me REAM: ME TOO!! isn't it great? come over and hot tub with me! COREY: Ummm, maybe I'll wander over in a bit. I want some tater tots. REAM: OK HURRY! I NEED TO CALL AND HARASS SOMEONE!! COREY: ok.

eventually (11ish) I wandered to Ream's. with beer. have you ever watched a fat bald man eat tater tots off a floating tray while soaking in a hot tub? me neither and i'd rather not. we ate the tots sitting on his couch. different sections we were sitting on. he smelled bad. me did too. we went drinky for a while then I walked home. walk walk was not as difficult at 1:30 semi-drunk as it was 6:30 very drunk. Wilt was asleep I got home. I went to accost him, but Buster took one for the team. I went to sleep.

flash forward to 8 this morning. phone rings, it's holly (who had been drunk harassed the night before) with a wake up call. work was tried, Ream was tried, only my stupid phone was on. oh well.

now I am at work. I don't want to be at work. all time has stopped moving forward. I need a nap

Rambling away

Dawn breaks across my face flooding my closed lids with a warm soothing light a peace that I feel can last and last until I realize that I still have to work and slave to make food and drink available. I rise, slowly despairing an excess of melancholy oozing from my pores and soaking my once occupied sheets. Shower sprays, I silently pray for an awakening that doesn’t come instead the spray hits me all over, no places left unexplored, yet my eyes remain closed and pouting. I sift thru the dreams running rampant in my head the most recent of which is that of the soon to be explored islands of my dream soon to be dream no longer but reality. My eyes burn open too long too much oxygen pours in drying out closing of the lids brings pained and welcome relief. Impetus unknown, merely moving thru the motions hoping that something will stick something will bring some meaning to someone something someplace somebody hopes growing fainter and fainter with passing minutes.
